Steve Oda

Steve Oda began his musical education at the age of seven learning to play slide guitar and then jazz guitar.

A Canadian of Japanese ancestry, his love of creativity through musical expression led him to the classical music of North India and the twenty-five string fretless lute called sarode. Since 1970, Steve has dedicated himself to learn this complex art form and carry on the teachings of his illustrious guru, the legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khansahib. With many international performances Steve now resides in the San Francisco Bay area, actively teaching and performing. www.steveoda.com

He has also been nominated for a Juno Award and a Western Canadian Music Award. Niel performs and composes on the new and elusive Hang (pronounced Hung), a flying saucer-esque instrument from Switzerland invented in the year 2000.
